A charming history
The Captain’s Cottage is a charming historic self-contained Georgian seafarer’s abode. It is a home away from home allowing you to relax and unwind while taking in the spectacular water views and ambience of the seaside village of Stanley. The cottage is exclusively yours with three bedrooms and two sitting rooms, off street, under cover parking, cottage gardens and within walking distance to beaches, shops and restaurants. Creature comforts include a shower, original claw-foot bath, cosy fire, two toilets, DVD, CD’s, full kitchen and laundry facilities.
Modern day comforts in Stanley’s first ever built private residence
The Captain’s Cottage is believed to be the earliest built private residence in Stanley C1835. It is a Georgian bluestone bagged cottage, featuring the original Baltic pine lined upstairs sitting room graced with a skylight and two dormer windows affording beautiful Nut and water views across the bay and surrounding countryside.
The cottage was originally built for Captain Burgess and passed into the hands of another seafarer and various families until purchased in the late 1980′s by Captain Max Holyman, affectionately known as ‘Captain Max of Ansett’, Mr Reg Ansett’s personal pilot. The Medwin family purchased the cottage in 1998 from the Holymans. The Medwins are traditional farmers whose ancestors were the first independent settlers outside the Van Dieman’s Land Company in 1841. They are still farming the original block at Black River nearby. The Cottage was purchased by Lance and Christine Griffin in 2012.
